The Construction Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for field and office employees in a construction environment. This role requires deep knowledge of construction payroll practices, including prevailing wage, certified payroll, union agreements, job costing, and multi-jurisdiction compliance. Success in this role depends on attention to detail, meeting strict deadlines, and maintaining compliance in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll for construction field and office employees
- Accurately apply:
- Job codes and cost codes
- Work classifications
- Prevailing wage and fringe benefit calculations
- Prepare and submit certified payroll reports (Davis-Bacon / state public works) accurately and on time
- Ensure compliance with:
- Federal, state, and local wage & hour laws
- Union agreements and CBAs (if applicable)
- Multi-state and multi-site payroll requirements
- Reconcile payroll data, review discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly
- Maintain payroll records in compliance with audit and regulatory requirements
- Partner with HR, Accounting, and Project Managers to ensure alignment on labor costs and job reporting
- Support internal and external audits, wage verifications, and payroll reporting requests
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and timely
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of construction payroll experience (required)
- Hands-on experience with:
- Prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting
- Job costing and cost code allocation
- Strong working knowledge of payroll compliance in construction
- Experience processing high-volume, time-sensitive payroll
- Proficiency in payroll or ERP systems such as:
- Sage 100 (preferred)
- Viewpoint, Foundation, ADP, UKG, Paycom, or similar construction-aligned systems
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Union payroll experience
- Multi-state payroll experience
- Experience with timekeeping systems (e.g., ExakTime, Viewpoint Field Time)
- Construction industry experience supporting field labor
